Francesca Volpe (Sorrento, 1991) graduated from the Academy of Fine
Arts in Naples in 2016 in Net Art, new technologies applied to art.
She began her career as a visual artist in the Neapolitan underground
movement. In her initial artistic research, through the use of
technology, in particular light and video projections, she
investigates within the sensorial confusion, the generation of
contradictions and a reflection on the human fragility. She continues
her artistic career collaborating with the
"La Mediterranea" art
gallery in the presentation of two projects realized through the
collage technique. The work has as a main goal to disclose the
absurdity and the indifference of her generation.
At the base of the iconographic composition Genesis has the structural subdivision referred to the 4 books of the apocalypse by St. John. From the term itself: apocalypsis, revelation, conceived as a key to read the contemporary context: starting from a migratory exodus of people from an unbearable reality, being forced to abandon their lands and ties, ending with the mystification of their own condition in the current society. A path of a suffering attempt of acceptance in search of a point of arrival in a promised nirvana.
The project has a basic evasion in representing the consumption of generational references through symbols and figures. Key figures of our existence to whom each of us attributes a different role, but who in our (r)existence share in equal measure. The art that leads to the search for the relationship: the composition of the playing card becomes for the artist a communicative pretext to contextualize the communication. The structure is divided into twenty-two works, like the arcane Major Tarot itself and it represents the path of the society that subsidises the energy of change.
This project was born from the desire to analyze the social static female figure through a classical iconography. It was deliberately represented as a mother, a godmother and a hypothetical salvation in a world where the static masculine spirit prevails over the social culture. Women are unreal but at the same time exhausted to unravel pity for mankind, swollen with an ancestral and regenerating energy that is explained through a thaumaturgical symbolism. It is almost able to alleviate the condition in which the most excruciating pain coincides with the state of normality.
During the pandemic and the forced closure there were countless unrealistic slogans proposed by the institutions that could not really support the social and emotional discomfort of the entire population. We are going through a process of profound change, partly imposed by the state of things, partly by our new perspectives and therefore our goals. The nature that has changed further and that for decades sends us desperate signs of help; the discrepancy between the values of the past and the static and degenerate situation of the present; on illusions, glory and boredom. The need to re-become, to fully cross your own impulses to find yourself and overcome what you believed to be, the need to understand the new images that surround us and explore ourselves within this new reality, admitting that we need time for a breath. The slogans contained in the works, reproduce in the light of the radical change that has taken place, the reason for art as the only instrument.
